Shu Pu-erh “Big Trees from Xigui” (Xigui Gu Shu), 2009, 357 g
An aged shu pu-erh made from Gu Shu (old tree) material from the Lincang region, Xigui village. The appearance shows a clearly distinguishable mix of buds and leaves, roughly in equal proportion. The compression is not tight and breaks apart easily.
The aroma of the dry leaf is sweet and woody, with notes of wild honey, chocolate, and oak barrels. The steamed leaves reveal plenty of sweet bark with berry-brandy nuances. The taste is rich with notes of cocoa, nuts, chocolate, and dark bread. The infusion is thick and насыщенный.
A fine example of aged shu pu-erh from a well-known region, with a noticeable yet gentle effect, suitable both for starting the day and continuing it.
To reveal most of its nuances, a clay teapot is recommended, with water at 90–95°C and about 5–7 g of tea per 100 ml. It can also be brewed easily as an infusion in a thermos or mug — it opens up vividly with any brewing method.
