Shu Pu-erh “Jin Da Fu Lao Cha Tou”, 357 g, 2023
A highly original shu pu-erh made from lao cha tou (old tea heads) from the Jin Da Fu Tea Factory. The blended spring raw material from 2018, sourced from the Ban Zhang and Dong Hai regions, was pressed in 2023.
The appearance is appealing, with many visible pu-erh buds and the characteristic tea heads clearly noticeable. The aroma of the dry leaf is not particularly expressive, showing only a faint woody sweetness. However, once the material is warmed, it immediately reveals notes of dates, familiar nuttiness, and a subtle muscat-like character.
The aroma in the cup adds another layer — a pronounced sweetness of crushed walnut and cashew.
The infusion can easily become very dark and thick; however, it is recommended to increase the dosage for a richer taste and stronger effect — for example, 8–9 g per 100 ml for gongfu brewing, or around 5–6 g per 500 ml when brewing in a thermos. This tea clearly benefits from strength and intensity.
The effect is highly constructive, vivid, and full-bodied. A great example of a well-made shu cha from the relatively young and rapidly developing Jin Da Fu factory.
